Dillenburger introduces ABA's conceptual, experimental and applied foundations, then asks whose goals are socially significant and how the person receiving support participates. She considers varied support needs and contrasts experiences voiced by some autistic self-advocates and parents.
The discussion distinguishes a science from a manual or discrete trial training alone and addresses professional misconduct and accountability. Learning examples introduce fluency, generalization and maintenance, while the closing argument invites autistic people, families and professionals to work together against discrimination.
